[Review] A Shamrock & Roll Evening @ BT8 Bar & Restaurant

2014-10-14 shenzhenparty

For many of you Shenzheners who have come from abroad, it might seem like a real reach for the stars to find a dining experience that reminds you a little of home, with regards to hygiene, food quality, ambience, service, and let’s not forget the authentic beverages in the house (if you have already found that magical place, I applaud you - please do share your secrets). So you can imagine my excitement when I found just one to those elusive gems that combined those essential dining elements in the one aesthetically pleasing space. Monday, September 22 was the opening party of BT8 Bar & Restaurant in Luohu, which I was fortunate enough to attend and I must say, I was truly impressed. There are two parts to the BT8 powerhouse – the handsome and hospitable BT8 Restaurant and its jovial brother BTL8 Cocktail Lounge who provides for all your libation needs. It seemed the Hongkong actress/songstress was also impressed enough to pop by to shake and stir a few drinks with the crowd to celebrate.

The conceptual heart of BT8 Restaurant is a high-end fusion between the generosity of the Western grill ie. steaks and seafood and the delicate flavors of Japanese cuisine. Ernest Leung, BT8’s General Manager explains that the “goal is to create the comforts of home,” and it all begins with “quality suppliers for fresh ingredients”. This place gives the feeling of being a touch exclusive while still maintaining an inclusive air due to the warm (English-speaking) staff and its mellow ambience.

There are 3 main open dining spaces surrounding the large open kitchen, which is simply delightful when filled with low chatter, and silverware clinking away during meals. Not to mention the sheer transparency of the preparation and cooking process in the kitchen is marvellous to observe as it is just like being guest to a home dinner party. There is also a private dining area for those looking for a more intimate setting, which is fantastic for birthdays or other small-scale celebrations. The subtle smell of sizzling steaks and skewered seafood lightly permeates the dining space but not enough to perfume your clothes like it’s the latest eau de kitchen-fume. They are however strategically designed to service 150 guests per night to maintain the freshness of the ingredients, so we highly recommend booking your table early to ensure you get the dish you’re craving for!

Highly recommended dishes:

The 1kg Tomohawk Steak (imported from an Australian cattle farm and hand-picked at the source). Need we say more? It’s quality, it’s huge, it’s tender, juicy and cooked to perfection, something rare in these parts of town.

Asparagus wrapped around thinly sliced rib eye 168RMB - tasty premium beef wrapped around a healthy sprig of asparagus, cooked over a charcoal grill, a super choice with first class presentation (but make sure it’s served hot and hasn’t been sitting there for too long, ditto with all other grilled dishes). Recommended as is and without sauce.

... and 3 more
